Developing pragmatic, evidence based strategies to help people safely and calmly taper off and stop antidepressant therapy

27th August 2020 – 12:45 to 13:45

On 27th August, we welcomed Dr Mike Scanlan. In a meta-analysis of controlled studies, investigators at Harvard Medical School and other universities found that people who receive psychological support while discontinuing an antidepressant are less likely to have a relapse.

This session, led by Dr Mike Scanlan, aimed to equip participants with a range of applicable and common sense approaches and tools that can help patients to manage anxiety, cope with physical discomfort, and maintain psychological wellbeing whilst coming off medication.

The session taught participants a range of thought defusion skills, willingness and acceptance mindful approaches and positive psychology approaches aimed at supporting and enhancing wellbeing.

The presentation was followed by a Q & A session.
