NICE Chronic Pain Guidance – Just like the NICE Anticoagulant guidance this new guidance is sure to be taxing you every day in primary care. We were privileged to have one of the NICE panel experts, Professor Roger Knaggs talk us through this crucial and controversial guidance. Roger is an Associate Professor in Clinical Pharmacy Practice, University of Nottingham and Advanced Pharmacy Practitioner in Pain, so he was able to give us a real insight into how best to manage these patients when you are performing SMRs.

How to overcome your own barriers to change – We welcomed again, Jamie Hayes, Director of the Welsh Medicines Resource Centre and an Executive Coach about how to overcome our own barriers to change. It was challenging and authentic but it is essential to self-reflect in the ever-changing PCN/ICS NHS landscape.

Long Term Condition Support / Focus on Best Practice / SMR case study

Supporting Long term Condition reviews in PCNs – Mandeep Butt, Clinical Medicines Optimisation Lead Primary Care Innovation at UCL partners AHSN talked about the long-term condition (LTC) work they are doing to support LTC patient reviews in primary care, in particular, how to use RAG rating to identify the most appropriate patients for different health professionals.

It helped the group think about how their SMR role could integrate with LTC reviews whilst preventing duplication of effort and supporting other team members e.g. HCAs.

Mandeep was joined by Aiysha Saleemi who is a Darzi Fellow pharmacist and has worked in various sectors, including hospital pharmacy, Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Primary Care.
